Beware
of different sweeteners.
Saccharin- which is 300 times sweeter than sugar and is sold
under the trade names Sweet n' Low and Sugar Twin--was the
first sweetener. In 2002, Congress removed the label that
stated that saccharin caused cancer in rats. This was founded
to be not true.
Aspartame--which is 180 t 200 times sweeter than sugar and
is sold under the trade names Equal and NutraSweet in 1965.
There have been complaints with this sweetener such as: headaches,
dizziness, nausea, seizures and memory loss.
Acesulfame K- which is 200 times sweeter than sugar
and is sold under the trade names Sunett, Sweet One
and DiabetiSweet-was approved in 1998. So far it has found
to be safe. It is found in baked goods, frozen desserts, candy
and beverages.
Sucralose--which is 600 times sweeter than sugar is known
as Splenda
Newest sweetener is called Neotame which is used in baking
goods and soft drinks.
